PostSubject: My Name is Summer   My Name is Summer Icon_minitimeMon Aug 08, 2011 6:28 pm

Hi, I'm Summer. I found GAPS at 18 with asthma, a suspected thyroid condition, and some mostly mild allergies, except for an anaphylactic allergy to milk that I can't do anything about at the moment. My mother has severe anxiety, depression, diabetes, low thyroid, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis (before even turning 40), and some digestive issues as well. I have one brother with crohn's disease and one brother with classic autism. Until I read about gaps, I just thought we were unlucky! I'm researching GAPS and preparing to apply it, but I noticed that there aren't many, if any, GAPS forums. So, out of necessity, I have created one. I hope that this attracts both people who need help and people that are already knowledgeable about the GAPS protocol.

I know some of the buttons are hard to see/find. I'm working on figuring out an easier and still appealing skin.

Brilliant Summer, you are a star!
I have been waiting for someone to set up a forum as I feel it's so desperately needed. I'm embarrassed to say i work in it (although I have no experience in web development) but just have not had the time or energy to do anything extra.
I came to gaps from the harcombe diet where they have a great forum so I really missed that Zoe harcombe created the diet (which has many parallels to gaps) and her husband Andy seems to do the website side of things. He might be a good person to ask for tips. When the website started I think it was free but they now charge a small fee if you want to post anything (£3 for 3 months which is equivalent to around $4-6 depending on exchange rate). I think they did this mainly to discourage people who were just on there to cause trouble trolls etc.
Good luck with this forum, I'm sure it won't be long till it takes off.
And well done!

The URL didn't show up in my last post hopefully it's in the web link above. Otherwise it's the harcombe diet club . com / forum with all the spaces taken out

Welcome! I'm glad someone finally posted!!!!!! Razz
I'm also happy that you say this was much needed. I feel like I'm on the right track. So what brought you to GAPS?

Interesting. I'll have to check permissions and make sure members are allowed to post links. What is their policy on guests browsing? Is the three pounds for being able to post or being able to look as well?

UPDATE
I looked at the permissions, and there is nothing about posting links. Did you try the hyperlink icon above? It's the one next to the picture icon.

Summer, thank you for starting this forum! I think it will be a wonderful resource as people become aware of it. I also find the yahoo group hard to follow, so this will be great!

You guys have no idea how great it is to hear this. I'm feeling more and more validated. I'm still keeping up with the yahoo! group community since they have so many more people, but I don't like it as a long-term solution. When one post starts getting really popular, it's hard to see who wrote what first and also to know that you have seen all the related messages. Yahoo! has some serious interface tweaking to do.

Hi summer, yes I tried both using the web link and also just pasting it into the text. All three times it just came up blank.
The harcombe website only charges you to post not to read. Not suggesting you want to go down that route just to let you know what's out there for tips. It's good having the box at the end where you have to copy the characters by human eye (no sure what's the technical term!) that should help alot.
Will have to introduce myself properly later as Im just recovering from a tummy bug and must get back out in the world and relieve my hubby and in laws who've had the kids all this time.

Aww, I hope you feel better? I'm going to have to create a fake member and figure out what is going on with the links! Are you talking about a captcha? I better just go check it out myself Rolling Eyes I'm so lazy.

That is very strange. I can't think of a reason you would need to change your username. I'm not a doctor, but that sort of sounds like a sun allergy. It's really rare, but my sister-in-law had a version of it. She would swell up and get a terrible reaction from sun exposure. Anyone that has a high sugar diet could have a candida overgrowth, here is a list of symptoms. I've never seen sun sensitivity as a symptom, though. It is extremely difficult to do GAPS vegetarian because when you take out all starches and refined sugars, there is very little left to eat. GAPS advocates lots of broths, proteins, fats, as these are the most digestible foods and a GAPS patient has a very weak digestive system. There are other solutions for candida overgrowth, but most of them are cleanses accompanied with a low-carb diet to keep them under control. Some things that have been showed to help candida infections include coconut oil and iodine supplementation. If you would like to know if you would benefit from GAPS, perhaps you should check yourself with this list or have a stool and urine sample taken by your doctor to check your gut flora, as vegetarians are pretty susceptible to GAPS problems.

Sorry Summer, you've done a great job on the website and I really shouldn't be giving any comment as I have no experience of web design. Yes I did mean the capachas you've put at the end of a post. I think they're a good idea but as I say I shouldn't be advising!
Grandma6 I think Summer has given you some great advise. Although GAPS is not main stream yet it is a healthy way for everyone to eat.

There is a suggestions section on the forum for a reason! I WANT suggestions. Don't feel like you aren't qualified. As far as web design goes, making a forum is extremely easy if you use a website like forumotion.com. You just name it, pick a template, and add some forums. I'm not great when it comes to designing things further than that. As far as captcha's go, I am bad at them and therefore don't like them very much. Otherwise, it is a great way to keep people from spamming. Maybe I'll introduce them if I start getting bots talking to me.
